Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Substrate

Paper Substrate: Made of pulp and phenolic resin, it is relatively cheap and has certain mechanical strength and electrical insulation properties. However, it has poor heat and moisture resistance and is generally suitable for simple electronic devices with low performance requirements. It is rarely used in computer motherboards and is commonly found in some low-end consumer electronic products.

Fiberglass cloth substrate: It is made of fiberglass cloth as a reinforcing material, impregnated with epoxy resin and hot-pressed. It is usually called FR4 substrate and is currently the most commonly used PCB substrate in computer motherboards. It has good mechanical strength, electrical insulation, heat resistance and moisture resistance, can adapt to a variety of complex electronic component installation and wiring requirements, and can ensure the stable operation of the motherboard in various environments.

Synthetic fiber cloth substrate: Use synthetic fiber cloth instead of fiberglass cloth, such as polyester fiber, polyimide fiber, etc. This type of substrate may be superior to glass fiber cloth substrate in some specific properties, such as better flexibility, impact resistance or high temperature resistance, but the cost is relatively high. It is often used in some high-end or special computer motherboards, such as some server motherboards or industrial control motherboards.

Non-woven fabric substrate: Made of non-woven fabric material, it has the advantages of soft texture, light weight and low cost. Its electrical properties and mechanical strength are average. It is mainly used in some small electronic product motherboards that do not require high performance but are sensitive to cost. It is less used in the field of computer motherboards.

Composite substrate: Composite substrates of different materials to combine their respective advantages. For example, the composite of paper substrate and glass fiber cloth substrate can reduce costs and improve performance to a certain extent. This composite substrate is used in some mid- and low-end computer motherboards.
